Anime of the Week: Chobits!!!!
Here’s the synopsis from My Anime List:
In the future, personal computers have developed into “Persocoms”, mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocon but cannot afford to. One day he finds a Persocom that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocom, all she can say is “Chi” so he decides to name her that. After a while it starts to become apparent that Chi is more than an average Persocom. Having much better performance, it seems that Chi might be a “Chobit”, a type of advanced Persocom rumored to have independent thought.
Okay, Stephanie said this anime was kinda dull, but she is SO WRONG!!!!!
This anime is fantastic and if it weren’t for me watching Kaitou Saint Tail right now (which is equally good, but i need to finish it for the review), I would be way, way deeper into the anime by now!
Although it is often compared to Zettai Kareshi because of the similarity of the plot lines, it is VERY different, character-wise and story-wise.
The main character is a boy, his name is Hideki. He’s not hot, but he would be if he had better eyes. But I think main characters do not need to be very good-looking unless that main character is a girl. Anyway, he’s a nice enough guy and very honest and hard working, but he is so ecchi that I get a little annoyed with his constant nose bleeding. Like, whenever he sees a cute girl and whenever they get close to him, he gets SO red!
Plus, the idea of Persocoms and chobits are very different from the “lover figures” from Zettai Kareshi. And there is no jealous childhood friend trying to compete for Hideki (so far) and calculating evil best friend. The characters are all pretty different so to say that it’s the same as Zettai Kareshi would be wrong.
Or maybe the manga is more similar?
Anyway, the art is great and the voice actors are all very suited to their characters, you know? Hideki’s voice is kinda deep and Chi, his Persocom, has a very soft, light voice and it’s funny to see how affectionate she is and how much she cares about Hideki. I wouldn’t say it’s predictable, but it’s very easy to tell that Chi and Hideki are going to fall in love.
I love the idea of Hideki teaching Chi how to speak and about life at first. They seem more like brother and sister at the beginning of the anime, however. I love how Chi is always expressionless but often tries to copy what Hideki is doing, it’s so cute! And she’s so cute because she’s so clueless, for example when she tries to help Hideki with his money problems by asking if she could also do a part time job, and holds up an ad for being a “slave”. And then Hideki FREAKED OUT. LOL!!!!!
I’ve only watched the first six episodes but I can tell I’m going to love this. :)
