Manga of the Week: Black Bird

Okay, I’m doing this just in case I forget again this Friday. :P

Here’s the synopsis from My Anime List:

“The world is full of mysterious “things,” but life keeps on going peacefully because no one can see them–except Misao. Harada Misao has the special power to see these “things,” but she doesn’t tell anybody and tries to continue leading a happy high school life. Though she’s jealous of her friends who have boyfriends, she’s just like a normal teenage girl as she keeps having dreams about a boy she met when she was younger who has the same power she does.

Her mundane life suddenly changes when demons try to eat her, and her old friend Kyo comes back to protect her from them. Then, she finds out that she is personally being sought out by demons either to become their bride or their food, and that Kyo is a demon, too. Will she still marry him like they promised when they were children, based on her faith in him that he has no bad intentions towards her? Will she even be safe at school now that Kyo has become her new homeroom teacher? Her exciting teenage life is just about to begin. (Source Serenus-Dreamers)

OK, this manga isn’t finished yet, but I will read every single chapter that comes out.

Because it’s pretty cute.

I love romance shoujo, and this one just happened to have supernatural forces in it too. Sweet. Although it gets inappropriate, the art is pretty and it gets quite interesting at times. Although I do get annoyed by the heroine sometimes, especially at the beginning, I do get impressed once or twice by her crisis-handling.

One things that could’ve been done better was Ren’s involvement in the manga. At first I was delighted that Ren was also able to see the demons, just like Misao, and that they acted like sisters when they first met. I was even happier when Ren became more important in the story (hey, mangakas don’t just add things into their mangas for no reason). I liked the idea of her being with _______ (spoiler), but her relationship with Misao kinda went downfall after that incident. I wanted them to stick together, like how Miyuu didn’t stop being Yume’s friend in Momo, even after her job was done. But they didn’t. Ren could’ve been a good character. She is so pretty, after all, and it would’ve been nice if she stuck with Misao. Oh well.

Overall, this is a pretty good manga (but not the best I’ve read) and I recommend this to shoujo lovers, especially the ones who like supernatural!! :D
